Students Demand Resignation of Chief Justice and Other Appellate Division Justices
Daily Bijoy News Correspondent:
Students Demand Resignation of Chief Justice and Appellate Division Justices Early Thursday, the Student Movement Against Discrimination demanded the resignation of the chief justice and other Appellate Division justices by morning to eliminate what they called fascism from the country’s judiciary system. The group warned of launching a tougher movement if their demand was not met, according to a statement by Asif Mahmud, one of the coordinators of the platform. “We demand the immediate removal of the chief justice and other Appellate Division judges as they are involved in maintaining a fascist system,” said Asif. He urged the authorities to fill the vacant posts with patriotic individuals to help form a student-people’s government. This statement came just hours after the Supreme Court was declared closed until further notice. A release regarding the closure was issued by the Supreme Court's public relations officer, Shafiqul Islam, on Wednesday night, stating that the chief justice made the decision after consulting with the president.
