Police Bureau of Investigation, Narsingdi (PBI) rescued a person named Rommel from Libya from human traffickers. The rescued victim is Romel Mia (34), son of Asad Mia of Bagrait village of Katiyadi police station in Kishoreganj. On Tuesday (June 4) afternoon, PBI Narsingdi Superintendent of Police (promoted to the rank of DIG) Md Enayet Hossain Mannan confirmed this information through a press release. Those arrested are Wasim Hossain (28) son of deceased Abdul Quader Mia of Narisha (West) village of Dohar police station of Dhaka district, Sohail (24) son of deceased Wahab Khan of the same area and Akarich Mia (54) son of deceased Ah Mannan of Mautupi village of Bhairab police station of Kishoreganj. A total of 22 SIMs including Tk 1.5 lakh cash, 9 mobile sets and Bikash SIM were recovered from them.
It is known that Rommel's cousin was in Libya and became acquainted with Rahmat Ullah, a member of the human trafficking ring. In that case Rommel's elder brother Babul spoke several times on the phone of Rahmat Ullah, a member of the trafficking ring. At one point, Babul's younger brother Romel was brought to Libya with Rahmatullah for 4 lakh rupees. Later Rommel was taken by Dubai to Libya via Egypt. After reaching Libya, Rahmat Ullah switched off the mobile phone he was using. After several days, an unknown member of the trafficking gang detained Rommel in a dark room on a video call to Rommel's elder brother Babul's Emu number and started beating him and demanded another 12 lakh rupees. Later, the smugglers asked Babul's cousin to send the money to his mobile phone with the bank account number and 12 Bikash numbers. Later Rommel's elder brother Babul filed a complaint at PBI Narsingdi on April 10 this year.
PBI Superintendent of Police Md Enayet Hossain Mannan (promoted DIG) took cognizance of the matter and directed to take immediate action and informed the higher officials. Later, several teams of PBI conducted raids at different places and arrested 3 members of the human trafficking ring with the recovery of 9 mobile sets, 1.5 lakh cash and 22 SIMs including Bikash SIM. It is also known that When the PBI contacted the Libyan Embassy to bring Rommel back to the country, the Libyan police rescued Rommel from the human traffickers and sent him to Dhaka. Later on May 24, a team of PBI Narsingdi reached Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport and received the victim Romel and handed him over to the family.
