The public holiday on August 15, which marks National Mourning Day, is likely to be canceled, according to a source from the Ministry of Public Administration. The cancellation is expected to follow an order from President Shahbuddin Ahmed, with a draft of the gazette already finalized, the source revealed. Home Adviser Brig Gen (Rtd) M Sakhawat Hossain mentioned that a meeting of all advisers is scheduled for this afternoon, where the matter will be discussed in detail.

After visiting injured BGB members receiving treatment at the Pilkhana headquarters hospital, he stated that there would be a significant deployment of police, BGB, and the Rapid Action Battalion to prevent any subversive activities on that day. “We will ensure all necessary security measures. The army might also be deployed on the day,” he added.

Earlier on Monday, several leaders of different political parties, including the BNP, met with Dr. Mohammad Yunus, head of the interim government, to express their support for canceling the public holiday.
