In Narail, elderly Shubha Rani Biswas files complaint at police station over land grabbing and house vandalism
Daily Bijoy News, Narail District Correspondent:
An allegation has been raised regarding the land grabbing and vandalism of a house belonging to a widowed elderly woman in Narail Sadar Upazila. The incident occurred in Ratdanga village of Chandiborpur Union in the upazila. The victim, Shubha Rani Biswas, has filed a complaint at Narail Sadar Police Station. The accused are Shushan Adhikari and Samir Adhikari, sons of the late Gobinda Adhikari from the same village.
In her complaint, Shubha Rani mentioned that the accused, Shushan, had been working on their land since his childhood while living in their house. About a year ago, Shubha Rani's husband passed away, and since then, she has been living alone. On February 12, Shushan and Samir, along with some others, came to Shubha Rani's house and demolished it. When Shubha Rani tried to stop them, Shushan said, "Your husband has written the land in my name, so vacate our house." Forced to comply, Shubha Rani filed a written complaint at Narail Sadar Police Station the same day.
Shubha Rani stated, "If my husband had transferred the land, I would have known. They have forged documents to grab the land. A case regarding this has been ongoing in court for 3-4 years. When they came to demolish the house, I tried to stop them, but they didn’t listen. After filing the complaint at the police station, I returned to find that they had even dug up the floor of the house and cut down the trees."
When asked, the accused Shushan said, "This land, along with the house, is mine. My house and doors were damaged, so I am demolishing it to build a new one." Acknowledging the ongoing dispute over land ownership, Shushan added, "They have filed a false case to prevent me from accessing the land. No verdict has been given in the case yet, but the court has not prohibited me from entering the land. So, I am demolishing my own house."
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, Sajedul Islam, said, "After receiving the complaint, we sent a beat officer to investigate. It was found that they were demolishing their own house to rebuild it, and a case regarding the land is ongoing in court."
