The family of the deceased and several hundred local residents held a human chain in Pirgacha, Rangpur, demanding the arrest and death penalty for the husband and other accused involved in the sensational housewife Yasmin Nahar Kakli murder case. This human chain was held yesterday, Monday morning, at Taler Hat Bazar in Kandi Union of the upazila. Organized by local residents, the human chain was attended by leaders of political parties from Kandi Union, and common people from several villages including Taluk Kandi and Taler Hat.

Speakers at the hour-long human chain included Kandi Union BNP President Jahangir Alam, former President Saheb Uddin Mridha, current General Secretary Ataur Rahman, Ward BNP General Secretary Isa Mia, UP member Rajek Beg, BNP leader Anisul Islam Islam Bhutto, social worker Ataur Rahman, women leader Rupsa Begum, and the victim's father Elias Ali Khan.

The speakers said that even though a month has passed since the sensational murder, no accused has been arrested. Instead, the accused are using their influence to issue threats. They alleged that even though the accused involved in such a murder are roaming freely, the police are not arresting them. Doubts have arisen in the minds of the locals regarding the police's activities. They warned that if the accused involved in the incident are not arrested immediately, a larger human chain in Kandi Union and programs to besiege the Pirgacha Police Station and the SP office will be announced. During this time, the victim's young child also stood in the human chain holding a festoon, demanding justice for his mother's murder.

It is known that Yasmin Nahar Kakli, daughter of Elias Ali Khan from Taluk Kandi village in Kandi Union of the upazila, was married to Abu Raihan, son of Abu Bakkar Mia from the same village, about 13 years ago. They have two sons in their married life.

As her husband Abu Raihan became involved in an extramarital affair, his wife Kakli objected to it. Over this issue, on the morning of September 24, her husband along with his family members beat Yasmin Nahar Kakli to death, left the body at her own house, and fled. Later, the victim's father, with the help of witnesses, recovered his daughter's body and filed a case at the police station.

When asked, the investigating officer of the case, Pirgacha Police Station Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam Akand, said, "After the incident, we have arrested one person named in the FIR. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the main accused. However, until the forensic report arrives, it cannot be definitively stated whether it is murder or suicide."
