In Burichong, blacksmith artists are having a busy time ahead of Eid
Daily Bijoy News Comilla Correspondent:
Eid-ul-Azha, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, is knocking at the door. Eid al-Adha is just a few days away. One of the tasks of this Eid is animal sacrifice. Sacrifice is the act of slaughtering an animal in the name of Allah in the hope of gaining his pleasure. Certain halal animals are slaughtered or sacrificed in the name of Allah on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. And ahead of this Eid-ul-Azha, blacksmiths are busy making animal slaughtering tools.
The tinkling sound of the blacksmith's shop heralds the arrival of Eid. Chapati, da, bati, knife making and sharpening work is going on day and night. Blacksmiths of Comilla's Burichong Upazila forget to eat and drink in the busyness of work and continue their work until late at night. All the sharp objects are made by beating the iron in the burning coal fire.
However, there is still no touch of modernity in making these. The work of making sharp objects from burnt iron is going on according to the old rules. Several blacksmiths in Burichong said, we have been involved in this profession for many years. Qurbani Eid really increases our busyness, we also look forward to this time. Sales are somewhat low throughout the year, some days go by. I wait all year for this time. A week before the Eid al-Adha is good.
