Youth injured in landmine explosion at Ghumdhum border in Naikhongchhari

A Bangladeshi citizen was seriously injured after stepping on a landmine planted by the Arakan Army's Puterakha while cutting bamboo in the hills inside Myanmar, opposite the Ghumdhum border in Naikhongchhari. He was rescued in an injured condition and admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. The injured man is Mansur Ahmed (26), son of Sirajul Islam from Ward No. 7 of Rajapalong Union in Ukhiya Upazila.
The incident occurred on Thursday (May 1) around 12 PM near Pillar No. 39 adjacent to the Tuinchaari BOP (Border Outpost) in Baishfari along the border, inside Myanmar's barbed wire fence.
On Friday (May 2) at noon, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masrurul Haque of Naikhongchhari Police Station confirmed the incident, citing locals, stating that a Bangladeshi national was injured in a landmine explosion at the border. He reported that the explosion occurred while the victim was cutting bamboo inside Myanmar near Pillar No. 39, close to the barbed wire fence under the jurisdiction of Tuinchaari BOP of Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB).
In the incident, the Bangladeshi national sustained severe injuries, losing toes and part of his left foot. Locals rescued him and initially took him to Kutupalong MSF Hospital in Ukhiya. As his condition worsened, the attending doctors referred him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
It is noteworthy that in the past few months, at least 20 Bangladeshi citizens have been seriously injured in landmine explosions planted by the Arakan Army's Puterakha.
