In Narsingdi's Shibpur, a mother named Shamsunnahar lost her life at the hands of her drug-addicted son. On Sunday morning (May 4), police recovered her body from their home in Bailab village of the upazila. The murder had taken place late on Saturday night (May 3). The accused son, Jabbar Hossain (28), has been arrested by the police.
The victim, Shamsunnahar (70), was the second wife of late Noorul Haq Master, a former teacher at Bailab Government Primary School under Chakradha Union of the upazila.
According to police and local sources, Jabbar Hossain, the younger son of the deceased Noorul Haq Master’s second wife, was a drug addict, while his elder brother lived abroad. The mother and son lived together in the house. Jabbar often mistreated his mother for money to buy drugs. Police initially suspect that Jabbar killed his mother late Saturday night after she refused to give him money for drugs.
Upon receiving the news, police recovered the body around 9:00 AM on Sunday and sent it to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Afzal Hossain, the acting officer-in-charge of Shibpur Model Police Station, said that the drug-addicted Jabbar Hossain locked his mother inside the house and killed her using a door latch. After the murder, Jabbar stayed in the same room throughout the night. Police found signs of injury on the victim’s head and a broken arm. After preparing the inquest report, the body was sent for autopsy. A case will be filed based on the complaint.
