Students from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University staged a road blockade in Dhaka's Agargaon area today, demanding job security and exclusive rights for agriculture graduates. The protest began on campus around 10:00am before the demonstrators marched onto Begum Rokeya Sarani, bringing traffic to a halt. They chanted slogans specifically against diploma holders in their field. According to Sher-e-Bangla Police Station OC Emaul Haque, the road was blocked by 12:00pm. "We are trying to ease the traffic situation by diverting vehicles to nearby roads," he stated.

The students' three core demands are:

  1. Reserving 10th-grade posts (e.g., Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer) at the DAE, BADC, and other institutions exclusively for agriculture graduates.

  2. Ending direct promotion to the 9th grade (by abolishing a BADC quota) and requiring a recruitment exam for all advancement.

  3. Regulating the title "Agriculturist" so it can only be used by holders of a bachelor's degree in agriculture or a related subject.
