The death of Pron Das in Birampur, Dinajpur is not a suicide, according to the PBI investigation!
Daily Bijoy News, Dinajpur Correspondent:
The death of Pron Das is not a suicide; a PBI investigation reveals it was a premeditated murder. Source: Case No.-14, dated 20/10/2025, under Section 302/34 of the Penal Code-1860, of Birampur Police Station, Dinajpur district. GR-229/2025 (Birampur). The plaintiff in the case, Sarti Rani Das, is a very simple, innocent, and poor person, who works as a daily laborer. She has gone to many places seeking justice for her only son's murder. But she has returned helpless each time. PBI Dinajpur has stood by her side.
When Pron Das (25) died at his in-laws' house, his mother-in-law, Josna Rani (45), went to the Birampur Police Station and provided a written statement claiming that he had committed suicide by consuming rat poison. Based on this statement, Birampur Police Station registered UD Case No.-17, dated 25/04/2025.
The unfortunate mother of the deceased, Pron Das, Sarti Rani Das, came to the PBI office on 31/07/2025 with a copy of the UD case and stated: "My son has been killed. But everyone at the in-laws' house says Pron consumed poison. I don't believe he would consume poison. Why would he consume poison? They hurriedly performed his last bath. We did not report the UD news to the police station. We did not get any help anywhere. On the advice of their neighboring residents, I have come to the PBI office. I want a proper investigation into my son's murder."
Based on the copy of that UD report provided by the plaintiff, PBI Dinajpur office filed a GD and initiated a shadow investigation into that UD case, forming a team led by SI Md. Mehedi Hasan, comprising several skilled Sub-Inspectors. After collecting various data, information, and evidence obtained during the shadow investigation, we concluded that the deceased Pron Das was definitely murdered. This is not a case of poison consumption. The accused staged this to save themselves. On the day of the incident, Pron Das's father-in-law, mother-in-law, his wife Puja, and Puja's brother Dipu themselves killed him and, to cover up the murder, staged the poison consumption incident and propagated it as a suicide.
Subsequently, on October 20, 2025, the deceased's mother, Sarti Rani Das (54), filed the murder case at Birampur Police Station against 4 individuals. The accused named in the FIR are: 1. Dipu Roy (22), son of Nipendra Nath Roy, 2. Puja Rani Das (19), daughter of Nipendra Nath Roy, 3. Josna Rani (45), wife of Nipendra Nath Roy, and 4. Nipendra Nath Roy (50), son of late Kshetra Barman, all residing at Dakeshwari, Police Station-Birampur, District-Dinajpur, along with 4/5 unknown individuals.
Considering the importance of the case, the Additional DIG of PBI Dinajpur District, Mr. Md. Mahfuzzaman Ashraf, proactively applied to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Headquarters, Dhaka, for the case to be investigated by PBI. Subsequently, through PBI Headquarters, Dhaka Memo No.- PBI/Case/2025/7178/Crime West, dated 20/10/2025, the investigation of the case was formally assigned to PBI Dinajpur District, and SI (Unarmed) Md. Mehedi Hasan of PBI Dinajpur District was appointed as the Investigating Officer of the case.
Under the proper supervision and overall guidance of PBI Chief Additional IGP Mr. Md. Mustafa Kamal and the overall leadership of PBI Dinajpur District's Additional DIG Mr. Md. Mahfuzzaman Ashraf, the investigation activities of the case began through the efforts of a skilled team from PBI Dinajpur District, including the Investigating Officer SI (Unarmed) Md. Mehedi Hasan.
In continuation of the investigation, on the evening of October 20, 2025, all 4 accused named in the FIR were arrested from their home in Dakeshwari village under Birampur Police Station, Dinajpur district, and produced before the cognizance court. Furthermore, with the permission of the cognizance court, accused No. 1 Dipu Roy and accused No. 2 Puja Rani Das were brought into police custody and interrogated intensively. During their interrogation, accused No. 1 Dipu Roy confessed to deliberately killing Pron Das (25) along with the other accused, stemming from a quarrel and dissatisfaction caused by the extramarital affair of accused No. 2 Puja Rani Das. On October 28, 2025, based on the confession of accused Dipu Roy, a brick-making hammer (farma) from Dipu Roy's bedroom and the cot he used were seized. On the same day, accused No. 1 Dipu Roy voluntarily and proactively gave a confessional statement before the cognizance court.
