The Gobindganj Government College team triumphed in the district-level game of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Inter-College Football Tournament, organized by the Gaibandha District Commissioner Office and the District Sports Association. They claimed the district title by defeating Bonarpara Government Degree College, Saghata, with a score of 1-0 in the final match held at Gaibandha Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium on Monday, July 1.

The match saw intense attacks and counter-attacks from the start, played on a muddy pitch due to the continuous rain of Asadha. In the eighth minute, a powerful shot by the Bonarpara striker was saved by the Gobindganj goalkeeper. Gobindganj took the lead in the 18th minute with a goal from striker Roman, making it 1-0. After the break, Bonarpara began the second half with aggressive attacking football. Despite maintaining possession for most of the second half, Bonarpara was unable to break through and score a goal. Consequently, the match ended with a 1-0 victory for Gobindganj.

After the game, the prize distribution ceremony was held at the Sultana Kamal Indoor Stadium. The chief guest was Shariful Islam, Deputy Director (Deputy-Secretary) of the Local Government Department at the Gaibandha District Commissioner's Office. Special guests included Professor Khalilur Rahman, Principal of Gaibandha Government College, Additional Superintendent of Police (B-Circle) Abdullah Al Mamun, and District Sports Association General Secretary Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milan. District Sports Officer Alamgir Hossain presided over the program, with several notable attendees including District Football Association President Golam Maruf Mana, Bonarpara Government College Principal Farukul Islam, and Gobindganj Government College Principal Md. Bashir Ahmed. The event was conducted by Masudur Rahman Masud, a member of the District Sports Association.

Notably, 16 college teams from various upazilas of Gaibandha district participated in this tournament. According to District Sports Officer Md. Alamgir Hossain, the district-level champion and runner-up teams will advance to compete in the divisional level tournament.
