Thakurgaon Witnesses Jamaat's Largest-Ever Protest Demanding ATM Azharul Islam's Release
Daily Bijoy News, Thakurgaon Correspondent:
A protest rally and a massive procession were organized by the Thakurgaon district Jamaat-e-Islami, demanding the release of former Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, ATM Azharul Islam. The rally concluded at 3 PM on Tuesday (February 18) at the Thakurgaon Press Club, followed by a protest march that paraded through the main streets of Thakurgaon city. The procession ended at the Thakurgaon Old Bus Stand with concluding remarks.
This protest march is considered one of the largest in the history of Thakurgaon. Leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami believe that no such large-scale protest march by any political party has been held in the area before. Among those present at the protest were Belal Uddin Principal, Amir of the Thakurgaon district branch of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, as well as leaders and activists from various unions and wards of the Thakurgaon district branch, along with the general public.
Belal Uddin Principal stated, "Our leader has been kept in prison for a long time without any crime. He must be released immediately. Otherwise, we are carrying out programs across the country today, and in the future, we will organize larger-scale programs."
