Sheikh Russel Bridge in Narail renamed Shaheed Salahuddin Bridge

The Sheikh Russell Bridge in Narail has been renamed the Shaheed Salahuddin Bridge by the leaders of the Students' Movement Against Discrimination. On Thursday afternoon, February 13, under the leadership of Md. Shafayet, Member Secretary of the movement, the bridge built over the Chitra River was renamed in honor of Shaheed Salahuddin, who was killed during the July Revolution mass uprising. A banner with the new name was also displayed.
Key figures at the event included Kazi Yajur Rahman Babu, the main organizer of the anti-discrimination student movement, Nawab Molla, the joint convener, and other prominent leaders. After hanging the naming banner, the leaders emphasized that no establishments associated with the Awami League or its allies would be allowed to exist in Narail or elsewhere in Bangladesh.
Shaheed Salahuddin, a native of Shiarbar village in Lohagara upazila, Narail district, was tragically shot dead in Dhaka during the July 24 revolution.
The Sheikh Russell Bridge, located at the Simakhali ferry ghat over the Chitra River in the heart of the city, began construction on April 30, 2014, under the supervision of the Local Government Engineering Department. Despite the original construction deadline being set for June 2017, the work was completed three months ahead of schedule. The bridge was opened to the public on March 16, 2017, before its formal inauguration on October 11, 2018.
