Currently, with the advancement of digital technology, various online platforms have expanded. Among these, online gambling has emerged as a new social menace. Many youths in Comilla's Burichang Upazila are becoming addicted to online gambling, which is negatively impacting their social and family lives. In different areas of the upazila, it is observed that a large portion of the youth are getting involved in various online betting and casino apps using smartphones and the internet.

Initially, they start with small amounts of money, but later, they lose large sums, leading to family financial crises. Students are losing focus on their studies and becoming addicted to their phones, resulting in a decline in educational standards. Additionally, many are resorting to theft, fraud, and even criminal activities to recover their losses, according to local sources.

A guardian said, "Instead of studying, my son spends the whole day on gambling apps. Despite repeated warnings, he refuses to change." A local teacher mentioned, "We are noticing changes in students. Their interest is decreasing, and their concentration is weakening."
