Human Chain in Ruhia, Thakurgaon Demanding Death Penalty for Rapist

A human chain program was held in Ruhia, Thakurgaon, demanding the trial and maximum punishment (hanging) of a rapist. The program took place on Monday at 11:30 AM at Patiyadangi Bazar in front of Ruhia Police Station, organized by people from all levels of No. 14 Rajagaon Union. The hour-long event was attended by students and teachers from four nearby schools, as well as people from various classes and professions.
Protesters chanted slogans demanding the death penalty for Shahjahan (Gendu), a local drug dealer and active Jubo League worker who raped Tamanna, a speech-impaired girl. The event was chaired by Md. Aminul Islam, headmaster of Dholarhat Girls' High School and a Jamaat leader. Speakers included No. 14 Rajagaon Union BNP President Md. Nurul Islam Nuru, General Secretary Md. Ziaur Rahman Zia, Senior Vice President Alhaj Aminur Rahman Ripon, Vice President Ahsan Habib, and local school teachers.
The speakers stated that Gendu is a drug dealer and an active Jubo League member who has been involved in previous rape incidents. They demanded the highest punishment for the rapist, Shahjahan (Gendu). They also called for improvements in law and order, the formation of a separate tribunal for rape cases, and the death penalty for rapists.
After the human chain, a protest march was held, starting from Patiyadangi High School and moving through various streets before ending at Patiyadangi Chowrasta intersection.
