Central Jubo League's assistant secretary Jamil Ahmed (42) was arrested by immigration police while attempting to flee to India through the Benapole land port in Jashore. He was detained on Monday, 19 May, at noon while trying to enter India for medical treatment.

Jamil Ahmed is the son of Joyal Abedin, a resident of Sreepatipur village in Mahimaganj Union of Gobindaganj Upazila, Gaibandha. Police reported that Jamil Ahmed submitted his passport to immigration for travel to India for medical reasons. However, as his passport was on the stop list, immigration police detained him for questioning.

Since there was a case against him at Gobindaganj Police Station in Gaibandha, the Benapole immigration police handed him over to the Benapole Port Police Station.

Ibrahim Ahmed, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Benapole Immigration, stated that when Jamil submitted his passport at the desk for an exit stamp, his name appeared on the online stop list, leading to his arrest.

Gobindaganj Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Bulbul Islam, confirmed that Jamil was handed over to Gobindaganj police the same night.

It is noteworthy that Jamil Hossain, the arrested individual, was a trusted associate of MP Abul Kalam Azad and Mahmud Hasan Ripon during the controversial, voter-less midnight election orchestrated by the autocratic Awami League in the last parliamentary polls. He was well-known in the area for allegedly swindling millions of taka from many people under the pretext of providing jobs.
