On Sunday (February 16, 2025) afternoon, Chatmohar police arrested Mohammad Helal Uddin from his residence in the Kheya Ghat area of Chatmohar Municipality. Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chatmohar Police Station, Monjurul Alam, stated that Helal Uddin was arrested in relation to an explosive case during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Additionally, they stated that Helal Uddin has been politically persecuted and harassed over the years, having been targeted by the local Member of Parliament. They argue that his arrest is politically motivated and intended to harass him. His family maintains that Helal Uddin is an innocent person, and despite this, he has been falsely charged and arrested by the police for political reasons. Helal Uddin was a businessman, and his family demands his immediate release.

The Chatmohar Upazila branch of the Bangladesh Awami League, Pabna, has strongly condemned and protested the arrest of Mohammad Helal Uddin. Despite there being no charges against him, his arrest is seen as a manifestation of the government's malicious intent to misuse power and undermine democracy. The party has called for the immediate release of former student leader Mohammad Helal Uddin. Additionally, the Faidzana Union branch of the Bangladesh Awami League in Chatmohar, Pabna, has also expressed strong condemnation, hatred, and protest.
