Daily Bijoy News Narsingdi Raipura Correspondent:
In Raipura, Narsingdi, classmates, teachers, and family members of the deceased protested in front of the police station, demanding the arrest of the prime accused, UP Member Ashraful Rahman, and others involved in the murder of SSC examinee Rajan Shikdar. The demonstration took place in front of Raipura Police Station around 2 PM on Sunday (April 4).
The protesters stated that Rajan Shikdar was a meritorious student who had participated in the ongoing SSC exams. However, over a trivial issue, a group led by Para Tali UP Member Ashraful Rahman brutally beat Rajan to death. Although a case was filed naming 16 accused, including the UP member, the police have yet to arrest anyone.
The speakers warned of stronger protests if the prime accused and others involved are not arrested immediately. Among those present at the protest were Sayedabad High School’s headmaster Md. Kamruzzaman, assistant teacher Shammi Akhtar, Rajan’s brother Russel Mia, Al Amin Chowdhury, along with other teachers, students, and locals.
It has been learned that Rajan Shikdar was returning home after his SSC exam on April 27. In the afternoon, he was playing carrom with friends at Alinagar Bazar intersection when an altercation broke out between an auto-rickshaw driver from Banshgarhi and Jahangir, a resident of Madhyanagar, along with his associates. Rajan and others intervened to calm the situation, and the auto-rickshaw driver was safely sent home.
However, Jahangir did not take the matter lightly. In the evening, led by his relative and Para Tali UP Member Ashraful Rahman, a group attacked a shop in Alinagar Bazar, where Rajan was brutally beaten with bamboo sticks. Severely injured, Rajan was first treated locally and later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died in the ICU on April 2.
Following the incident, Rajan’s father, Fazlu Mia, filed a murder case on Saturday, naming UP Member Ashraful Rahman and 15 others as accused. Raipura Police Station’s acting officer-in-charge, Adil Mahmud, stated that Rajan’s classmates had come to the police station demanding the arrest of those involved. "I have spoken with them. Raids are ongoing, and the accused will be apprehended soon to face justice," he said.
