In Burichang, Jubo League Leader Leads Daylight Attack on Ex-Army Member's Home, Followed by Arson at Night
Daily Bijoy News Comilla Correspondent:
In Burichang Upazila of Comilla, a group led by Jubo League leader Golam Mostafa attacked the house of retired army sergeant Abul Hossen in Paruara village during broad daylight, vandalizing and looting the property due to a previous feud. Later that night, miscreants set fire to the house of the retired soldier. The continuous attacks and arson have left the ex-army member fearing for his life.
It is known that there was a long-standing dispute between Abul Hossen and his brother, Jubo League leader Golam Mostafa, over land and an auto rice mill in Paruara village. Although mediation meetings were held earlier, no resolution was reached. Following the feud, on Monday (May 5) at around 10 AM, a group of 10–12 people led by Golam Mostafa attacked Abul Hossen’s house with local weapons. The attackers destroyed the CCTV cameras installed at the house. Fearing for his life, Abul Hossen locked himself inside. The assailants tried to break in, demanding to find his son, Jaynal Abedin Suman. Abul Hossen immediately called the national emergency helpline 999, and police arrived within half an hour to rescue them.
Upon realizing the police presence, the attackers threatened them and then raided the rented house of Jaynal Abedin Suman in the nearby West Singha village. They broke the CCTV cameras, entered the house, and held women and children hostage at gunpoint. They vandalized valuables, looted Tk 7.20 lakh, three bhori of gold, three mobile phones, bank cheque books, and ATM cards before locking the house from the outside and fleeing. Upon receiving news of the attack, Jaynal Abedin Suman, who was outside, called 999, and police quickly arrived to rescue the family and sent them to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, while the injured were being treated, miscreants set fire to one of Abul Hossen’s houses that night, causing damage worth around Tk 15 lakh. The retired army member stated that the attackers had previously tried to kill him and his family. On March 20, Golam Mostafa and his men attacked his family in a similar manner. He also alleged that a neighboring individual named Noman and his associates set fire to his house. He now lives in constant fear for his life. Additionally, they are preventing him from entering his business, "Sonali Bangla Agro Food Industries," and have locked his son’s gas shop, "Suman Enterprise."
He mentioned that preparations are underway to file a case with Burichang Police Station and the court regarding the incident. Accused Golam Mostafa, however, denied the allegations of attack and looting, claiming that they only went to Suman’s house looking for him and took his wife’s mobile phone because she was recording a video. He admitted to an ongoing dispute over financial transactions related to the auto rice mill.
Burichang Police Station’s Acting Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azizul Haq stated that police rushed to the scene upon receiving the report at night and inspected the area in the morning along with Debpur outpost police. Legal actions are being taken regarding the matter.
