Daily Bijoy News Thakurgaon Correspondent:
As part of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's central program, a protest rally was held in Thakurgaon demanding a 5-point charter, including the Proportional Representation (PR) system for elections. The protest march, organized by the Thakurgaon District Jamaat-e-Islami, commenced from the Old Bus Stand of Thakurgaon district at 3:00 PM on Monday (October 27). After parading through the main streets of the city, the march concluded with a closing rally back at the Old Bus Stand.
Kafil Uddin Ahmed, a member of the Central Shura of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, was present as the chief guest at the protest rally. The speakers at the rally stated that the upcoming national election must be held under the PR system. Furthermore, they demanded the swift completion of the trial for the July genocide, the banning of activities of the autocracy-aligned National Party and the 14-Party Alliance, and ensuring a free, fair, and acceptable election by holding a public referendum based on the July charter by November. The speakers also said that the only way to overcome the current political crisis in the country is to restore democracy through a neutral election that reflects public opinion.
