Students in Comilla Pledge to Use Internet Safely

A discussion session and oath-taking ceremony were held at Nimsar High School in Burichang Upazila, Comilla, aiming to create awareness among students about safe internet usage. This program was organized on Sunday (November 9) by the voluntary social organization Lal Shobuj Unnayan Sangha. Held in the school's hall room in the morning, presided over by the organization's founder and central president, Kawsar Alam Sohel, the event featured Burichang Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md. Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan as the chief guest.
Speaking as special guests were Nimsar High School's Headteacher Md. Abdul Haque, Tahera Junab Ali Balika High School's Headteacher Anwara Begum, Senior Teacher Md. Makbul Hossain, Lal Shobuj Unnayan Sangha's Dhaka District Branch President and Jahangirnagar University student Zia Uddin Ayan, Dewanganj Branch President Yasin Munshi, Joint General Secretary Anis Sarkar, and member Yasin Hossain. During the discussion, the speakers said that in the current time, the internet has become an integral part of lifestyle. However, if one is not aware of its negative aspects, adolescents and young adults can easily fall prey to various online addictions, cybercrimes, and unethical content. Therefore, proper guidance, parental supervision, and personal awareness are extremely important.
Subsequently, nearly 300 students of the school took an oath to stay away from smartphone addiction, avoid obscene and unethical content, use time properly, and ensure safe internet usage. The founder and president of Lal Shobuj Unnayan Sangha, Kawsar Alam Sohel, informed that the members of the organization are students from various schools, colleges, and universities across the country. By saving money from their tiffin allowances, they have been conducting anti-drug activities, preventing eve-teasing and child marriage, increasing safe internet awareness, and distributing tree saplings across the country for the past 14 and a half years. So far, they have completed 1898 awareness programs.
The organization's central member and Jahangirnagar University student, Zia Uddin Ayan, said, "Our goal is to inspire the new generation with proper education, humanity, and a sense of responsibility. Along with gaining proficiency in using technology, young people need to become stronger in human and social values."
