Quota Reform Movement: 78 Arrested HSC Examinees Secured Bail
Following an initiative by Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, 78 HSC examinees secured bail from different courts across the country on Friday, despite it being a weekend. Among the students granted bail, 55 are from the Dhaka Division, 14 from the Chittagong Division, six from the Khulna Division, and three from the Rangpur Division.
The law minister took special measures to expedite the bail process for the HSC examinees arrested in connection with violence and vandalism-related cases linked to the quota reform movement. He directed prosecution teams nationwide to be proactive in securing quick bail for these students.
As a result of this directive, 37 candidates were granted bail from the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court and five from the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, even on the Friday holiday.
The postponed exams for these students are scheduled to be held from August 11. A press release from the home ministry on Thursday stated that HSC examinees detained in recent violent incidents would receive legal assistance for bail if they apply with their exam admission papers and relevant documents. The government also committed to providing legal assistance for the bail of detained students against whom there are no serious charges.
