‘Imagination’: Jamil Khan’s Solo Exhibition Kicks Off at Garden Gallery Cosmos
Daily Bijoy News Correspondent:
Singapore-based Bangladeshi artist Jamil Khan’s solo exhibition, titled ‘Imagination’, was inaugurated on February 13 at the Garden Gallery Cosmos in Dhaka’s Baridhara. The exhibition offers an immersive experience, inviting visitors to step into a world where art and nature converge, imagination flows freely, and every brushstroke breathes life.
Organized by Gallery Cosmos, this two-day exhibition marks Jamil Khan’s third solo showcase and his second collaboration with the gallery. His previous exhibition, ‘Inspiration’, was held in November 2023. The current exhibition features around 30 artworks, created in both Singapore and Dhaka, using mediums such as pencil sketches, acrylic, and oil paints. Jamil’s artistic journey from ‘Inspiration’ to ‘Imagination’ reflects resilience, a quest to find light in darkness, and a deep connection to nature’s rhythms, translated into vibrant colors and forms.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, family, friends, and admirers of the artist, who hails from a family renowned for its patronage of Bangladesh’s diverse arts and talented artists. Among the attendees were Enayetullah Khan, Chairman of Cosmos Foundation, Founder of Cosmos Group and Gallery Cosmos, and Emeritus Editor of UNB; Tehmina Enayet, Director of Gallery Cosmos; Nahar Khan, Vice President of the Cosmos Group, Executive Director of Gallery Cosmos, and Executive Editor of UNB; Masud Khan, Honorary Consul of Ireland in Bangladesh and Deputy Managing Director of Cosmos Group; and other notable figures.
Also present were Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, former Adviser on Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh’s caretaker government and President of Cosmos Foundation; Jahangir Sadat, President of Korean EPZ Corporation Bangladesh Limited; Ambassador Tariq Karim, former diplomat and President of the Bay of Bengal Institute; prominent artist Maksuda Iqbal Nipa; and family members of the late eminent artist Kalidas Karmakar.
Inaugurating the exhibition, Enayetullah Khan said, “It is my great pleasure to welcome you to this fantastic exhibition by Jamil on this lovely spring afternoon. From his kindergarten days, I sensed his creativity and enthusiasm. Most of these pieces were created in Singapore, and after returning to Bangladesh, he worked at the Gallery Cosmos studio. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the artist, Gallery Cosmos, and especially Jamil’s sister Nahar Khan, Artistic Director Sourav Chowdhury, and above all, Gallery Cosmos Director Tehmina Enayet, for her dual role as an art promoter and a mother. This evening will remain one of the most memorable of my life.”
Tehmina Enayet, Jamil’s mother and the exhibition’s curator, shared, “From childhood, Jamil has been passionate about art, painting, drama, photography, and travel. After the success of his first solo exhibition, ‘Inspiration’, it brings me immense joy as a mother to see his second solo exhibition, ‘Imagination’, come to life. I always knew Jamil had immense creative talent, and I am incredibly proud of his artistic achievements. My gratitude also goes to the Gallery Cosmos team for their dedication.”
Nahar Khan, the artist’s sister, expressed her pride, saying, “Jamil has been a source of inspiration since our childhood. Watching his growth and transformation into such a talented artist has been incredible. He’s already thinking about his next show, exploring photography and other creative avenues. I encourage him to keep nurturing his talents, learning, and pushing boundaries. We are always here for you, Jamil, and we are so proud of you.”
Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury remarked, “As you enter my home, one of the first things you’ll notice is a magnificent painting by Jamil. They say, ‘Art is long, life is short,’ but Jamil’s art and inspiration will endure. With love and humility, we dedicate this evening to Jamil and his incredible work.”
Artist Jamil Khan expressed his gratitude, stating, “Nature has always been my muse. The veins of a leaf, the play of sunlight through trees, the changing colors of seasons—all inspire my work, giving it an earthy appeal. From ‘Inspiration’ to ‘Imagination’, my journey has been about resilience, finding light in shadows, and translating nature’s rhythm into art. I am deeply thankful to my parents, Nahar, the Gallery Cosmos team, and all our esteemed guests for their support.”
The exhibition will remain open today at Garden Gallery Cosmos, House 23, Road 4, Baridhara, Dhaka, from 3 to 8 pm.
