Daily Bijoy News, Rajshahi Correspondent:

The drug trade and consumption are continuously increasing across Godagari Upazila in Rajshahi. As a result, public life is becoming increasingly unsettled, and ordinary people are living in fear. Local sources report that open sales of marijuana, Phensedyl, Yaba, and local liquor are rampant in various areas of the upazila. Locals allege that this drug trade has been ongoing for a long time due to the collusion of a class of influential individuals and some unscrupulous businessmen.

Expressing their anger, a resident of Godagari municipal area, on condition of anonymity, said that after dusk every day, young people use drugs in various places. They claim that even though these activities continue in plain sight of the administration, not enough measures are being taken. Many also claim that due to drug addicts, crimes like theft and snatching have increased in the area. Consequently, students and the youth are being led astray.

Law Enforcement's Activity

Regarding this matter, Godagari Police Station police said, "We are regularly conducting anti-drug drives. Several people have been arrested recently. It is possible to eradicate drugs if everyone in society cooperates."

Society's Demand: Strict Measures Needed

Local teachers, guardians, and the youth demand that anti-drug awareness campaigns be strengthened further. Simultaneously, they insist the administration must take a firm stance so the area can be freed from this curse.
